Dear All,
I would like to share some information about my method of Interventional Systemic-Cultural Psychotherapy, which I briefly call Paulina Kubś ISPC Psychotherapy Method, or ISPC Method of Paulina Kubś.
My many years of experience working with trauma and patients in crisis, with tendencies towards minor or major decompensations, mechanisms based on dissociation, derealization, or splitting, as well as an interest in evolutionary psychology, physiological mechanisms, and main directions in psychology and psychotherapy (psychoanalysis, Jungian analysis, understanding of hypnosis, humanistic psychology including existential, positive psychology, transpersonal, cultural including psychology of religion and spirituality), have led to the creation of a method that is by its nature interventional and adapted to the patient’s capabilities (in terms of frequency and duration).
It begins more intensively, if interventional, twice a week, or once a week for a period of 3 to 6 months. Often, this time is quite sufficient for many patients to be able to reduce the frequency of sessions towards accompanying psychotherapy, that is, with a frequency of twice a month.
After some period of this process, we can plan even less frequent meetings, once a month, once every two months, once a quarter, even once every six months, as long as there is such a need. Depending on the individual psychotherapeutic process and the needs of the patient, guidelines are agreed upon individually for each person, to learn to recognize a crisis and then avoid it, increasing their survival strategies (building a base).
The built coping strategies (in nature – survival) are based on paradox. It happens that personality disorders, which oscillate around rigid defense mechanisms, do not arise without reason. To some extent and up to a certain point, they can also help. Therefore, we do not seek pathology, but the possibilities of coping, creating a base in developed consciousness, based on respect for oneself and others, in action and communication, and increasing responsibility for oneself and the social system in which one functions (pro-health norms). During the work with the ISPC Method of Paulina Kubś, the patient learns how to avoid recreating patterns of their disorder, and therefore suffering. First, however, they must get to know themselves well and understand themselves.
When the frequency of sessions decreases, guidelines for coping with a crisis are already named or described, building a comfort zone for the patient that is to be internalized by them, so that external factors do not cause disruptions or suffering, and they can perform their tasks.
The patient learns to avoid costs in the form of emotions, energy, crisis, financial losses, to then perform other tasks more boldly. They may lead to the realization of their own intentions or those imposed by the system they live in (those they agree to).
Systemically, a symptom fulfills specific functions, so a disorder does too. Positive connotation is very important here, and the ISPC Method of Paulina Kubś focuses mainly on individual work with adult patients. I consider myself a psychotherapist who thinks mainly systemically, supplementing knowledge from other methods through supervision or various types of shorter training. I have also completed comprehensive training in Psychotherapy accredited by the Polish Psychological Association.
The goal of the method is to shorten the process of psychotherapy, which requires many years for most patients, to a maximum of two years, then with less frequency. Of course, with the ISPC method, one can also work with patients longer, as they individually need. However, it is important to establish this at the beginning, because the ISPC Method may be felt as containing pressure for healing.
The assumptions of the Method also include that the patient tells the truth about themselves, even if they lie. That is, we work precisely with what is said. Therefore, it is important to accept the sincerity and authenticity of the patient, to not increase their risk of self-destruction. If a patient has a need for lying (for various reasons not only arising from their pathology), it is worth ending psychotherapy with this method or reducing its intensity.
The goal of the ISPC Method is to create a life base for a person after deep traumas, so that they can develop in every possible plane of life for them, by increasing awareness of boundaries and the need to set boundaries.
Before starting psychotherapeutic meetings, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the regulations on the website: https://psychotherapy-ipsk.com.pl/en/statute/
The ISPC Method of Paulina Kubś will be described here on an ongoing basis.
Warmly inviting you.
Paulina Kubś, M.A.
