Symptoms include typical PTSD symptoms as well as additional symptoms.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-rank-math-toc-block\" id=\"rank-math-toc\"><h2>Spis tre\u015bci<\/h2><nav><ul><li><a href=\"#kiedy-moze-wystapic-zlozony-przedluzony-ptsd\">When can complex, prolonged PTSD occur?<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#objawy-zlozonego-ptsd\">Symptoms of complex PTSD<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#jak-leczymy-zlozony-przedluzony-ptsd\">How do we treat complex, prolonged PTSD?<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"kiedy-moze-wystapic-zlozony-przedluzony-ptsd\"><a><\/a>When can complex, prolonged PTSD occur?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development of this syndrome often occurs in:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>long-term victims of domestic violence,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>people who were sexually abused in childhood,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>victims of slavery,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>people who experienced long-term neglect from their caregivers in their childhood.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"objawy-zlozonego-ptsd\"><a><\/a>Symptoms of complex PTSD<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A man who struggles with complex post-traumatic stress disorder:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>feels a strong fear at the thought of situations and places that are associated with trauma,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>he insistently avoids conversations or even thoughts about the event he has experienced,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>has so-called flashbacks, i.e. sudden, involuntary returns to traumatic memories,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>experiences difficulties in coping with strong emotions,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>has a negative self-image,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>has problems with maintaining close relationships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"jak-leczymy-zlozony-przedluzony-ptsd\"><a><\/a>How do we treat complex, prolonged PTSD?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As in the case of simple PTSD, psychotherapy is the basis of treatment. We can use various therapeutic streams, including behavioral-cognitive therapy, integrative therapy or EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pharmacotherapy should be included when the symptoms make it difficult to function on a daily basis. It is often necessary when anxiety symptoms intensify or when the patient suffers from depression.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therapy for complex PTSD can be a long-term process. We have to work through a trauma that has been developing for months, and sometimes even years.
