Female mental disorders

Female mental disorders are a set of problems that occur only in women or take a slightly different form in women than in men. The first group includes baby blues and postpartum depression, and the second group includes body image disorders.

Baby blues and postpartum depression

Baby blues and postpartum depression don’t mean the same thing. These two disorders differ in duration, intensity of symptoms and cause.

Baby blues usually begin 3-5 days after birth and stop after up to 2 weeks. The main symptoms are mood swings, fatigue and tearfulness. The cause is sudden hormonal changes.

Postpartum depression can start later and last for months. It means deep sadness, negative thoughts, loss of interest. Sometimes it is associated with the rejection of the child. Its basis is complex – it includes both psychological, social and hormonal sources.

Body Perception Disorders

Negative perception of one’s own body is a problem that affects many women. It has to do with the cult of the ideal figure promoted in the media, as well as low self-esteem. It happens that it leads to eating disorders or obsessive use of aesthetic medicine treatments. Lack of acceptance of one’s own body also results in relational problems, depression and anxiety disorders.

Sexual disorders with a psychological background

Among female mental disorders, we can also mention sexual disorders that have an emotional basis. They are often the result of trauma caused, for example, by the experience of sexual violence. They may also be related to the aforementioned negative body image or problems in relationships with your partner.
