Gambling addiction therapy

Gambling addiction therapy is individual psychotherapy, sometimes combined with group psychotherapy. It lasts from several months to several years, depending on the severity of the problem, the patient’s involvement and possible comorbidities.

What does individual therapy for gambling addiction look like?

During the first meetings, we establish contact with the patient, make an initial assessment of the situation and together determine the goals of therapy, their frequency and other important rules.

Then we move on to the actual psychotherapy, which is to deal with the deeper emotional and psychological problems that led to the addiction. To do this, we explain in detail the mechanism of action of addiction. At the same time, we are working to ensure that the patient is able to recognize warning signals on their own, which prevents them from returning to gambling. To make this possible, a person must learn how to react differently to difficult emotions.

During therapy, we also often deal with rebuilding relationships, because compulsive gambling negatively affects the contacts of the addicted person with their loved ones. If the situation requires it, we can use couples therapy or family therapy.

Group therapy for gambling addiction

In the case of addictions, in addition to individual therapy, we also offer group psychotherapy. It is a process that consists of a series of meetings among people who are struggling with the same problem. Each session is attended by an experienced therapist.

Group psychotherapy gives participants the opportunity to exchange experiences and support each other in the fight against addiction. Thanks to such a group, the patient knows that there are people who understand his situation well, which improves well-being and makes it easier to undergo treatment.
