Mental health is one of the most important elements of well-being, i.e. well-being, understood as a state of general health and happiness. We can take care of them in various ways – through self-development, maintaining good relationships, physical activity, and if there is a need – also through psychotherapy.
What is mental health?
Mental health can be understood as the absence of mental illness, but not only. What’s more, according to many specialists, the absence of mental disorders does not necessarily mean mental health.
According to the definition of the World Health Organization, mental health is a state of inner balance in which a person realizes his or her abilities and copes with difficulties, can work effectively and is able to contribute to his or her community.
What is well-being and what role does mental health play in it?
The term well-being is most often understood as a sense of physical and mental health. It is a state of contentment, prosperity and comfort at the same time. Therefore, it can be said that mental health is one of the pillars of well-being. Without it, true well-being cannot be achieved. This is why well-being programs often focus on working with emotions.
How to take care of mental well-being?
We can take care of our mental health by:
- relaxation techniques – reduce stress and anxiety and improve concentration,
- physical activity – has a positive effect on the body and also relieves stress,
- self-development – means the realization of passion and ambition,
- maintaining good relationships – they provide emotional support, especially in difficult situations,
- healthy lifestyle – poor diet, sleep deprivation and stimulants can have a negative impact on mental condition,
- psychotherapy – allows you to work through problems and better cope with emotions.
