Long-term therapies – types

Long-term therapy is a process that lasts from several months to several years. This is the time that allows for an in-depth understanding of the causes of the difficulties experienced by the patient. It gives a chance to solve complex problems, such as personality disorders or deep traumas. These goals can be achieved with the help of various therapeutic currents. Psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches are often used, as well as humanistic and behavioral-cognitive therapies.

Psychoanalytic therapy

Psychoanalytic therapy originates from the psychoanalysis developed by Sigmund Freud. It assumes a strong influence of the unconscious on emotions and human functioning, which is why it focuses on reaching repressed drives, memories and feelings.
