Male sexual dysfunction

Male sexual disorders can be divided into sexual dysfunctions, paraphilias (sexual preference disorders) and gender identification disorders. The method of treatment depends on the type of problem the patient is experiencing, its sources and the severity of the symptoms.

Sexual dysfunctions

Dysfunctions refer to the abnormal course of sexual activities and can have a psychological or physiological basis. This group includes:

  • weakened libido, i.e. a decrease or complete lack of sexual needs,
  • erectile dysfunction,
  • excessive sexual desire,
  • premature ejaculation,
  • delayed ejaculation.

Paraphilias

Paraphilia, or sexual preference disorder, means that a man feels aroused when confronted with unusual stimuli and behaviors. This group includes m.in:

  • fetishism – a person with this disorder achieves arousal and orgasm thanks to certain objects or parts of the body (fetishes),
  • pedophilia – is a tendency to feel sexual arousal towards children,
  • exhibitionism – means that a person gets sexual satisfaction when he exposes his genitals in front of strangers,
  • Watching (voyeurism) – a man gets his excitement from secretly observing people in intimate situations.

Gender Identification Disorders

Gender identification disorder means that a man feels a discrepancy between the gender assigned at birth and the one with which he identifies. She can then strive for permanent gender correction or change into women’s outfits.

Treatment of male sexual dysfunction

Sexual dysfunctions are treated with psychotherapy or pharmacotherapy, depending on the cause. Sometimes it is necessary to combine both methods. In the case of paraphilias, psychotherapy is the basis, sometimes supported by medication. In the case of gender identity disorders, therapy is important to accept one’s own identity and, if necessary, go through the process of gender correction.
