Female sexual dysfunction is a group of problems that make intercourse difficult, and sometimes even impossible. They can have a psychological or biological basis. It is the causes of the difficulties that determine the method of treatment.

Types of Female Sexual Dysfunction
Sexual disorders in women are most often divided into:
- desire disorders – means a reduced sexual desire or its complete absence,
- arousal disorders – this is, for example, vaginal dryness, i.e. the lack of physiological reactions that usually occur during intercourse,
- orgasm disorders – difficulty reaching climax,
- pain disorders – e.g. dyspareunia (pain during intercourse) or vaginism (contractions of the vaginal muscles that prevent penetration).
Treatment of Female Sexual Dysfunction
The treatment of sexual disorders is primarily dealt with by a sexologist. Its task is, among other things, to determine whether the problem has a psychological or biological basis. The diagnosis is made on the basis of a conversation with the patient and medical examinations.
If the cause lies in the psyche, then the best way to treat it is psychotherapy. Sexual disorders in a woman can be the result of trauma (such a situation often occurs in victims of rape or sexual harassment), a negative assessment of one’s own body or fears related to the sexual sphere.
It happens that the problem has a relational basis. In such a situation, we recommend psychotherapy for couples. It is a series of meetings with a therapist in which two partners participate. Therapy is primarily used to work on the mutual relationship. The couple learns how to better communicate their own emotions and needs, and at the same time how to open up to the emotions and needs of the other party.
