Additional ways to deal with stress and anxiety

Among the methods that help manage stress and anxiety, we can mention aromatherapy and art therapy fields such as music therapy and chromotherapy. These tools work well when working with people of different ages.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a therapeutic method in which we use aromatic plant materials, and above all essential oils. Its history dates back to ancient times.

Mental well-being is positively influenced by:

  • lavender oil – calms, makes it easier to fall asleep and reduces anxiety.
  • bergamot oil – reduces stress and relaxes,
  • ylang-ylang oil – helps in states of strong tension and irritability,
  • lemon balm oil – reduces anxiety and nervous tension,
  • orange oil – improves mood and gives energy.

There are different forms of aromatherapy. Oils can be used for massage or inhalation, sprayed in the air with a diffuser or sprinkled on objects in the environment. Fireplaces and scented candles are also popular.

Music therapy

Music therapy is divided into:

  • active – it is playing instruments, singing, movement to music,
  • passive/receptive – it consists of listening to music, relaxation and visualization.

Therefore, it can be said that listening to your favorite songs while traveling or walking is a form of music therapy.

Music therapy has a long history, as even in tribal times, shamans used playing instruments and singing during healing rituals. Currently, it supports the therapy of anxiety, mood disorders and personality disorders.

Since 2012. you can earn the title of a professional music therapist in Poland. The certificates are issued by the Polish Association of Music Therapists.

Chromotherapy

Chromotherapy is also known as color therapy – an unconventional therapeutic method in which we use lights of different colors. Each color has a different effect on well-being and the nervous system.

In chromotherapy, the following are of particular importance:

  • red – adds energy and increases activity,
  • blue – calms, calms, helps with insomnia,
  • green – relaxes and brings balance,
  • yellow – improves mood and gives self-confidence,
  • orange – mobilizes and increases optimism.

Chromotherapy, like aromatherapy and music therapy, has its roots in antiquity, but interest in it increased in the late nineteenth century. Edwin Babbitt and Seth Pancoast played a big part in this.
